Other associations are breed-related, such as the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) and its affiliates. The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) and the Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) are two other well-known national associations that offer cow horse competition. The FQHR refers to preserving the working cowhorse right in its mission statement. Each of these organizations honor a specific breed by showcasing its ability in many events, including reined/working cowhorse.
Here, grouped alphabetically by state, is a list of associations offering reined cow horse competitions and information. Note: NRCHA affiliates are marked with an asterisk (*).
Also note that though the origins of the modern-day cow horse competition are rooted in the American West, the excitement of the event is universal... and catching on fast. Several international groups have formed to celebrate the beauty and athleticism of the reined cow horse. They are included below as well.
